Anna Gual (Vilafranca del Penedès, 1986) is the author of eight poetry collections: Implosions (LaBreu Edicions, 2008), L’ésser solar (Lleonard Muntaner Editor, 2013), Símbol 47 (LaBreu Edicions, 2015), Molsa (AdiA Edicions, 2016), El tubercle (Editorial 3i4, 2016), Altres semideus (LaBreu Edicions, 2019), Ameba (Llibres del Segle, 2020), and Les ocultacions (Proa, 2022). In 2025, she will edit Jo tinc una mort petita. Poemes de dol per a la pèrdua d’una criatura (Angle Editorial), an anthology of Catalan poetry on the loss of a child, spanning the 20th and 21st centuries.

She has received several literary awards, including the 2013 Pare Colom Poetry Prize, the 2016 Bernat Vidal i Tomàs Prize, the 2016 Senyoriu Ausiàs March Prize, the 2019 Cadaqués a Rosa Leveroni Prize, and the 2022 Miquel de Palol Prize.

Her work has been translated into multiple languages. Notable translations include: Innombrable (Stendhal Books, 2020), translated into Spanish by Miriam Reyes; Implosions (Lanskine Éditions, 2021), French translation by François-Michel Durazzo; Il tubero (Ensemble Edizioni, 2022), Italian translation by Francesco Esposito; Occultations (Lanskine Éditions, 2025), again translated into French by François-Michel Durazzo; and Las ocultaciones (Vaso Roto, 2025), Spanish translation by Joan de la Vega.

In addition to book-length translations, her poetry has appeared in numerous languages—including French, English, German, Italian, Portuguese, Galician, Spanish, Croatian, Slovenian, and Russian—and in various international journals. Selected poems can be read on Lyrikline. In 2022, her work appeared in English, translated by Ann Kaiser, in Hyperion Magazine and the Harvard Review. In 2023, she was published in Poetry Magazine—becoming only the third Catalan-language poet to be featured in the journal’s 100-year history—as well as in Circumference Magazine.

Throughout her career, she has taken part in literary festivals, writing residencies, and poetry translation seminars in Italy, Croatia, Russia, France, Slovenia, Switzerland, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

Gual’s poetry is characterized by a deep engagement with image and language, exploring themes such as nature, the body, mysticism, and the act of writing itself.

Several of her poems have been set to music by the OMAC – Orquestra de Músiques d’Arrel de Catalunya (L’ocult natural, Clariana, Bonsai, Reencarnació lleial), Judit Nedderman (Suite de la veritat), Anaïs Vila (Realitat paral·lela), Agnès Algueró (L’oració pàlida, Re-re-re-besàvia), and Carola Ortiz (Corro per la nit).

During the 2021–2022 season, she was the guest poet at the Palau de la Música Catalana. As part of this residency, she curated and organized Llegats Vivents, a tribute recital honoring Catalan poetic traditions, presented at the Palau in both 2022 and 2024.
